"Daniel Day Lewis as Hamlet on the fort Lovrijenac! Even today I feel tingles down my spine when I remember!"
Helga Steinerberg, Koln, Germany

  • For more than half a century, on the 10th of July, Dubrovnik is transformed into a large, animated stage. With the traditional hoisting of the Libertas flag on Orlando's pillar, artists begin their 45 day long reign of the Town. Stage lights directed at old monuments bring to life the spirit of the past, while the Town streets resound with well known pieces of classical music and the squares sway to the rhythm of local folklore. The nurturing of culture of the Dubrovnik Summer Games, which are also included in the calendar of world festivals, is related to the freedom-loving spirit of this town, which reared numerous great writers such as Ivan Gundulić and Marin Držić.
  • Dubrovnik's artistic life offers exhibitions the whole year round in some of the most magnificent historical venues inside the Town. Dubrovnik's Carnival Festivities are also known afar – the Dubrovnik carnival, whose tradition goes back as far as the early Middle Age. The great town festival, the Feast Day of St. Blaise and also the Day of the Town of Dubrovnik (3rd of February) is celebrated during the entire week, along with lively religious services, processions along the town streets, concerts, sporting, entertainment and carnival events.
