EUTERPE steam ship
The Euterpe steamship was owned by the Austro-Hungarian Lloyd and was built in 1907. On the night of 11.07.1918, an Italian submarine F-16 torpedoed it and it sank. Before the First World War EUTERPE was a wonderful large passenger ship and sailed a number of express routes to the Near East and Mediterranean. Just before the beginning of the First World War, the boat was put into decommission, and rested until 1918 when the military authorities took it out of decommission. In 1918, Euterpe once again sailed the Adriatic as a military transportation boat for the transport of materials and military equipment. When the Euterpe was hit by two torpedoes, the boat began to quickly sink and ended up at a depth of 85 metres. The wreck is located on a sludgy sea bed. The top of the mast is at a depth of 69 metres whilst the hull is located at a depth of 85 metres. Due to its depth, this location is suitable for professional divers who dive with mixed gases. |
