Events in Pula

Pula is the largest town in Istria, and can be proud of hosting the largest number of events in the region. Huge events are often held in the Arena that turns into an open-air stage and has already hosted a large number of artists from all over the world.   The 2000 year old Arena offers the ideal atmosphere for holding concerts, particularly in the summer, when famous and renowned international artists perform as a part of the Histria Festival. Huge stars have performed in Pula in the last few years, like Sting, Jamiroquai, Norah Jones and others. Luciano Pavarotti, another legend of classical music who sadly recently left us also performed here a number of times.   Croatian film’s annual gathering, the Pula Film Festival has been regularly held for 55 years in Pula, when for a week the amphitheatre turns into an attractive open-air film screen. When cinematography in the former state was lively, valued and productive this festival had a reputation that went beyond national borders. In the 1990s it became more of a local festival, but in the last few years things have greatly improved. Recently, the Arena has had the honour of screening premieres of films that have proven to be excellent productions and have won numerous awards at international festivals.   The Arena is not the only place where attractive events are held. There are also modern music festivals, such as the Seasplash reggae festival, which annually offers “alternative” audiences the chance to send and receive positive energy until the early hours of the morning.   As well as this, Pula has performances, exhibitions, jazz and classical concerts, and culinary lovers and those who are curious and want to find out more about the ethnography and uniqueness of this area won’t feel short changed. In short, Pula and its environs offer a range of well organized events where everyone will find something to interest them.
