Rabac Travel Guide: Shopping

Did you know that all of Rabac’s beaches have a Blue Flag? Rabac is a favourite summer destination because of its white pebble beaches and crystal clear sea. It got its Blue Flags in 2002.
Representatives of the international Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), which aims to make beaches safe for swimmers, evaluated Rabac in a number of areas: the cleanliness of the sea and the beaches, the management of the beaches and the safety of swimmers, the conservation of the natural surroundings, and environmental awareness. Rabac was also the winner of the Croatian Tourist Association award “Blue flower with golden sign” for the best kept tourist settlement on the Adriatic in 2007.
You will find many things on the path that stretches the length of Rabac’s coastline. There is an entertainment centre, restaurants, inns, pizzerias, ice-cream shops and cafés, lounge terraces…You can also find souvenir stands that sell things for the summer and a variety of interesting handicrafts. In terms of the bars, we recommend the Tropic lounge bar, Movie bar, Exotic snack bar and the Plaza bistro.
Swimming, sunbathing, having fun and relaxing are not the only things you can do during your stay in Rabac. Champions of an active holiday, sports activities and adrenalin will come into their own with the excellent range of facilities and locations that are aimed directly at them.
Make a little room for culture in your timetable. Visit the town of Labin that is close to Rabac, look at its interesting sites, listen to the regular outdoor summer concerts, visit the museum, exhibitions and watch the performances.
You can also explore Rabac’s surroundings, and go on day trips to the islands of Krk and Cres, inland Istria, Brioni National Park and Učka Nature Park.
Rabac is extremely well connected in terms of transport, so irrespective of whether you come by road, air or sea transport you can get here very quickly.

Olive growing tradition dates back to the old times when the ancient Romans recognized Istria as fertile soil for olive growth. The Istrian olive oils are among highly valued and top quality ones. We recommend you to try them with other olive products along olive oil roads and make your loved ones happy with a bottle of this oil by one of well-known Istrian wine makers.

Try biska brandy, the autochthonous Istrian brandy made from wine-brandy, mistletoe and several species of herbs. It has curative properties as it relaxes, regulates blood pressure, improves circulation, helps heart and kidney function and has anti – inflammatory effect. In Istria, besides biska, you can try rue herb brandy, honey brandy, sweet cherry brandy, fig or jujube brandy.

Famous musical instruments in the Istrian folklore are roženica (sopele, sopile, supiele, tororo), mih (mijeh) and šurle. The roženica is a musical instrument like oboe, the mih is made out of sheep skin and it can have simple or double melody pipe, while the šurla is made out of two separate wooden melody pipes connected at the upper end where the air is blown into. Take along one of the traditional Istrian musical instruments, the sounds of which will remind you of the unforgettable vacation in Istria.

The most famous stone souvenirs offered by many souvenir shops in Rabac are kažun, traditional Istrian field shelter, then small Istrian traditional family houses, baker’s ovens, wells and other typical Istrian constructions handmade out of small stones.
