Our autumn offer has ended, but other Valamar offers are available throughout the year.
Autumn has a reputation for being the “quiet” season, but that’s exactly the point. Fewer crowds, softer sunshine, sea that’s still surprisingly swimmable and long lunches that don’t need reservations weeks in advance. If you’re wondering what autumn travel really looks like, here are the answers.
Autumn in Croatia keeps the best parts of summer. The peak summer buzz softens, restaurant tables are easier to get, and exploring historic towns feels far more comfortable without the midday heat.
Warm sea temperatures linger in early autumn, and as the season moves on, the weather turns ideal for exploring. It’s the kind of balance many travellers end up preferring.
Autumn in Croatia is generally mild and pleasant, especially along the Adriatic coast. September often still feels like late summer, with daytime temperatures between 22°C and 26°C. October cools slightly to around 17°C to 22°C, making it ideal for exploring. November is fresher, but still moderate compared to much of Europe.
There can be occasional rain showers as the season progresses, but sunny days are still common, particularly in coastal areas such as Istria, Kvarner and Dalmatia.
Yes, and many people do. The Adriatic stays warm well into early autumn, often around 20°C to 23°C in September. Swimming is usually very comfortable, and even October can still surprise you with warm water on sunny days.
You will also spot locals swimming year-round, especially in southern Dalmatia. If you prefer your swims more pleasant than brave, September and early October are your safest bets.
Think layers. Light clothing works well during warm daytime hours, especially in early autumn, but evenings can be cooler, so a sweater or light jacket is a smart addition. Comfortable shoes are essential for exploring cobbled streets and coastal paths.
September and early October still feel swim-friendly, so do not leave your swimwear behind. Later in the season, evenings turn cooler, which makes a warmer jacket and a compact umbrella a sensible backup plan.
