22 June – 6 July 2025
MIDSUMMER SCENE is an international theatre festival held in Dubrovnik since 2014, bringing musical and theatrical performances each evening to stunning locations, especially the impressive Fort Lovrjenac, all under the open sky. The performances are in English and connect theatrical art with the rich historical and cultural heritage of the city.
In addition to the main repertoire, the programme includes side events such as music performances, exhibitions, book promotions, workshops, and guest appearances by international theatre companies. The festival is unique in Croatia and intended for all lovers of site-specific theatre – tourists and locals alike.
This year’s main production is Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s The School for Scandal – a satirical comedy about the intrigues of high society, to be performed 13 times at Fort Lovrjenac, for the first time in Croatia.
On June 28, Držić Day will be celebrated at the Rector’s Palace in cooperation with the Marin Držić House. New English translations of his comedies Pinch Hoard (Skup) and Venus and Adonis (Venere i Adon) will be presented, with a performance by artist Adele Anderson.
The festival closes on July 6 with I, Peaseblossom – a witty and tender one-man show inspired by A Midsummer Night’s Dream, adapted by Tim Crouch, directed by Philip Parr, and performed by Filip Krenus. The play features video animation and shadow theatre, with innovative effects by Joseph Herscher (Joseph’s Machines).
