How to get to the Island of Rab

Getting to the Island of Rab is easy thanks to its excellent connectivity via multiple modes of transportation. Whether you prefer travelling by boat, car, bus or air, there’s a convenient route for everyone.

By car

Travelers navigating by car on a holiday in Croatia

Reaching Rab by car requires a ferry crossing from the mainland.

  • Via Slovenia : take the A1 motorway towards Rijeka, then follow the A7 motorway to the ferry port in Stinica. From there, take the ferry.
  • Via Italy: follow the A4 motorway to Trieste, cross into Slovenia via Sežana or Koper, and continue through Croatia on the A7 motorway to Stinica, then take the ferry.
  • Via Zagreb: take the A1 motorway towards Senj, then continue on the D8 coastal road to Stinica, followed by the ferry.
  • Via Rijeka: follow the E65 and D8 coastal road south to Stinica, then take the ferry to Rab.

By sea

Sea travel in Croatia via local ferry routes

Most passengers arrive by ferry from Stinica, near Senj on the mainland, to Mišnjak on the southern side of the island of Rab. The ferry ride takes about 15 minutes, and ferries depart every one to two hours (in summer more frequently).


The Valbiska-Lopar ferry service connects the islands of Krk and Rab; the journey takes about 80 minutes.


In addition to ferries, the island of Rab is also accessible by fast catamaran from Rijeka and Zadar and by passenger boat from Lun on the island of Pag.

By bus

Travelling to Rab Island by bus is a convenient and cost-effective option. Here’s what you need to know:

Buses from major cities
  • Daily buses connect Rab Island with Rijeka, Zagreb, Karlovac, Trieste, Crikvenica and Novi Vinodolski
  • The central bus station is located 600 metres from Rab’s old town
  • The bus station offers a passenger information desk, ticket sales, luggage storage, food and drink sales, a shop, ATM, currency exchange and a taxi stand
On-island bus services

Regular bus services operate across the island, making it easy to get around once you arrive.


Local bus stations are located in:


  • Rab (Palit) – all bus lines depart from this station
  • Lopar – the bus stop is located across from Diona market, along the coast
  • Kampor – the bus stop is about 150 metres from the elementary school in Kampor
  • Barbat – the stop is located on the D105 road heading south
  • Dumići (Supetarska Draga) – the stop is located in the Dumići Bay, near the market and tourist agency

  • Rijeka Airport (RJK) – 70 km
